
Composition
Each single-dose uncoated tablet of Metolazone available in 2.5 mg, 5 mg, and 10 mg dosages is comprised of Metolazone IP equivalent to 2.5 mg, 5 mg, or 10 mg accordingly, along with other ingredients.
Indications
Usage of this drug is indicated in the treatment of reduction of swelling caused by hepatic or cardiac disorders, prevention of strokes and heart attacks, and decreasing the edema or increased fluid overload in the body.
Side effects
A mild to moderate range of side effects has been observed. Side effects such as nausea, dizziness, fatigue, headache, fainting, swelling in joints or pain, restlessness, blurred vision, and diarrhea.
Precautions
This medication is to be prescribed cautiously in pregnant patients, prior to working with heavy machinery or driving.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with Hepatic coma, patients with anuria, and severe hepatic encephalopathy.
Dosage and administration
In adults, the usual dosage consists of 2.5–5 mg to be administered orally once a day. In the treatment of edema associated with congestive cardiac failure or severe renal disease, a dosage of 5 to 20 mg is to be administered orally once a day; further dosage is to be adjusted accordingly.
