Composition
Each tablet available in 500 mg, 850 mg, and 1000mg contains metformin hydrochloride with other excipients accordingly.
Indications
This drug is indicated in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Side effects
Mild to moderate side effect has been observed such as muscle pain, breathing difficulty, irregular heart rate, and vitamin b12 deficiency.
Precautions
This drug is to be cautiously used in patients with heart failure, prerenal azotemia, pregnancy, and lactation.
Contraindications
This drug is contraindicated in patients with severe kidney disease, and metabolic ketoacidosis.
Dosage and administration
Immediate-release tablet- In adults usual dose consists of a tablet of 500 mg to be given orally twice a day. Extended-release tablet- in adults usual dose consists of a tablet of 500 -1000 mg to be given orally once a day.
