Composition

Each single dose uncoated tablet of levamlodipine available in 2.5 mg, and 5 mg dosages is comprised of 5 mg of levamlodipine equivalent to 6.4 mg of levamlodipine maleate along with other active ingredients.

Indications

Usage of this drug is indicated in the treatment of moderate to severe hypertension in adults and in the younger age group; for the prevention of strokes, heart attacks in serious cases, hypertensive encephalopathy, hypertensive retinopathy, hypertensive renal disorders, and preeclampsia and eclampsia.

Side effects

A mild to moderate range of side effects has been observed. Side effects such as dizziness, nausea, fatigue, headache, lightheadedness, drowsiness, extreme tiredness, troubled breathing, hives, chest pain in severe cases, swelling over eyes, lips, or oral region, and flushing may occur in some cases.

Precautions

This medication is to be prescribed cautiously in patients with severe renal impairment or hepatic disorders, in cases of aortic stenosis.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with a known previous history of hypersensitivity to levamlodipine or any of its active or inactive constituents, in cases of systemic hypotension as it might worsen it further, severe aortic stenosis.

Dosage and administration

In adults with hypertension, the usual dosage consists of 2.5 mg to be administered orally once a day; the maximum dose can be increased up to 5 mg per dose to be administered once a day. Adjust the dosage according to the treatment.
