
Composition
Each capsule contains Cephalexin monohydrate equivalent to 250 mg,500 mg, or 750 mg of cephalexin. The capsules also contain carboxymethylcellulose sodium.
Indications
It is indicated in the treatment of susceptible strains of various microorganisms, such as Otitis media, Skin associated infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes. Respiratory tract infections caused by Streptococcus pneumonia, Bone related infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, and Genitourinary tract infections.
Side effects
Side effects may range from mild to severe depending on the patient some of the effects such as fever, rashes, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Precautions
To be prescribed with caution in cases of allergic reactions, impaired renal function, and patients with hepatic impairment or poor nutritional state.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity reactions to Cephalexin, cephalosporins, penicillin, or other drugs.
Dosage and administration
In adults usual dose of 250 mg is administered orally 6 hourly. And a dosage of 500 mg is administered orally every 12 hours. In case of severe infections, larger dosing may be needed.
