A single-dose tablet of hydrochlorothiazide, available in 12.5 mg, 25 mg, and 50 mg, contains hydrochlorothiazide USP. Other inactive ingredients present are FD & C yellow, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, pregelatinized starch (starch 1500), and dibasic calcium phosphate dihydrate.


The usage of this drug is indicated in the treatment of edema due to congestive heart failure and edema due to renal dysfunction such as nephrotic syndrome, chronic renal failure, and glomerulonephritis.

Side effects

Mild to moderate side effects have been observed, such as headache, weakness, blurred vision, dizziness, restlessness, vomiting, cramping, constipation, diarrhea, and gastric irritation.


To be used cautiously in patients with azotemia, severe renal diseases or impairment, patients with severe hepatic disorders, and patients with bronchial asthma.


This drug is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the sulfonamide class of drugs or a previous history of anuria.

Dosage and administration

In adults, the usual dosage is 25–100 mg daily, as a single or divided dose.
