Composition

A single dose vial of Ertapenem contains Ertapenem sodium 1.046 g equivalent to Ertapenem is 1 gram and has no such preservatives.

Indications

Usage of this drug is indicated in the treatment of serious bacterial infections, intraabdominal infections, urinary tract infections, gynecological infections, acute pelvic infections, and surgical site infections.

Side effects

Mild to moderate side effects have been observed. Side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, a burning sensation, discoloration of the skin, soreness, a skin rash, inflammation, and blistering. Rare side effects include abdominal pain or stomach cramps and tightness in the chest.

Precautions

This drug is to be prescribed cautiously in patients with hepatic disorders or renal dysfunction.

Contraindications

Ertapenem is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of the constituents of this drug or who are allergic to the beta-lactam class of drugs.

Dosage and administration

In adults, the usual dose consists of 500 mg administered via intramuscular injection or intravenous infusion once a day.
