Composition

A single-dose vial of Clevidipine is available in injection form, in which Clevidipine butyrate equivalents of 50 mg per 100 ml of it are present along with other ingredients.

Indications

Usage of this drug is indicated in the treatment of moderate to severe hypertension, in the prevention of strokes, in the prevention of heart attacks, and in the case of atrial fibrillation.

Side effects

A mild to moderate range of side effects has been observed. Side effects such as dizziness, nausea, headache, fatigue, lightheadedness, vomiting, troubled breathing problems, tightness in the chest in some cases, severe confusion in some cases, swelling in the feet or hands, and an increased heart rate.

Precautions

This medication is to be prescribed cautiously in patients with severe hepatic disorders, renal dysfunction, lipoid nephrosis, hypercholesterolemia, and cases of severe aortic stenosis.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to clevidipine or any other constituents of this drug, in patients with impaired lipid metabolism, hyperlipemia, acute pancreatitis, cases of hypotension, and reflex tachycardia.

Dosage and administration

In adults, in cases of hypertension, the usual dosage consists of 1-2 mg/hour; up to 32 mg/hour can be given in cases of severe hypertension; the dosage should be adjusted accordingly.
