
Composition
Each single uncoated tablet of amlodipine consists of amlodipine besilate IP, equivalent to 5 mg of amlodipine. Other inactive ingredients present in it are dibasic calcium phosphate anhydrous, sodium starch glycolate, and magnesium stearate.
Indications
Usage of this drug is indicated in the treatment of hypertension, to decrease the workload in the heart and its blood vessels, and in the treatment of angina.
Side effects
Mild to moderate side effects have been observed. Side effects such as dizziness, headache, lightheadedness, tiredness, a dry cough, hyperkalemia, muscle weakness, and flushing. Serious side effects may consist of increased chest pain or extreme drowsiness.
Precautions
This drug is to be prescribed cautiously in patients with severe hepatic disorders or in cases of renal dysfunction.
Contraindications
Amlodipine is contraindicated in patients with severe aortic stenosis, hypersensitivity to any of the constituents of the drug, unstable angina, or heart failure.
Dosage and administration
In adults, the usual single dose consists of 5–10 milligrams once a day to be administered orally.
