
Composition
A single dose capsule of Acebutolol available in 200 mg and 400 mg dosage forms comprise of Acebutolol hydrochloride USP with other active ingredients.
Indications
Usage of this drug is indicated in the treatment of High blood pressure, in case of patients with dilated veins, arrhythmias, in case of premature ventricular contractions.
Side effects
Mild to moderate range of side effects have been observed. Side effects such as lightheadedness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, increased frequency of urination, joint or muscular pain, cough, difficulty in breathing or breathing problems, increase in liver enzymes.
Precautions
This medication is to be prescribed cautiously in patients on other drugs as interactions with other drugs might lead to other conditions.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to this drug or any of its constituents, contraindicated in patients with heart failure, poor circulation, atrioventricular block, Pheochromocytoma.
Dosage and administration
In case of hypertension, the usual dosage for adults consists of initial treatment with 400 mg to be administered once a day orally or 200 mg to be administered twice a day. In case of ventricular arrhythmia, a dosage of 200 mg is initially to be administered orally twice a day. The maintenance dose can be given up to 600-1200 mg per day.
